Welcome to another edition of Now Stream This. I’ve scoured the wild world of streaming services to bring you the best of the best of the best. It seems every day another new streaming service is popping up, making it nearly impossible to navigate this dangerous terrain. Don’t worry, I’m here to help. You’re welcome.

This edition of Now Stream This brings you a highly underrated and very recent Todd Haynes movie, a new Netflix horror flick, a gloriously over-the-top action movie, a cynical noir loaded with snappy dialogue, the first Hannibal Lecter film, a romantic horror movie, a Steven Spielberg adventure, a cringe-inducing social media comedy, and some good old fashioned body horror. Brandon Cronenberg is the son of director David Cronenberg (The Fly, Dead Ringers, the upcoming Cosmopolis) and it looks like the younger Cronenberg’s first feature continues some of his father’s “body horror” interests in earnest. Antiviral looks at the cultural obsession with celebrity, using some of the elder Cronenberg’s early go-to ideas (boundary-pushing clinics; biological expressions of desire and ideology) for a story that looks, from a distance at least, like a fairly timeless freakiest.

Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class) is Syd March, a Lucas Clinic employee. The clinic brings people closer to their favorite celebrities by infecting the fans with diseases of the rich and famous. The first trailer, below, shows that getting into that line of thinking is exactly as weird and dangerous as you’d think it might be. David Cronenberg‘s new film Cosmopolis played to pretty good reactions at Cannes; there were those who didn’t find it compelling, but that’s actually reassuring, as a Cronenberg movie seems like it shouldn’t be for everyone. Now we know when the US will get a chance to see the film. eOne picked up Cosmopolis prior to Cannes, and is rolling it out in other countries now, with a Canadian opening tomorrow and UK bow a week later.

eOne plans to distribute Cosmopolis in the US starting on August 17, which is a bit earlier than we would have expected it to land. Still, we’ll take all the Cronenberg we can get, and as soon as possible, please.
