A Prophet remake

Hollywood has been trying to mount a remake of Jacques Audiard’s highly acclaimed 2009 crime thriller A Prophet for years, and Paramount Pictures has finally found its leading man for the remake. Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk, Amazon’s Homecoming) has been hired to play the lead role, a petty criminal who rises through the criminal ranks after a stint in prison to become a feared and respected gangster. James will join Russell Crowe in the new movie, who has already been cast as ruthless mobster that James’ character meets while behind bars. Read More »

A Prophet Remake

Do you remember the French thriller A Prophet in 2009? The critically acclaimed movie was nominated for numerous awards, and won a couple international equivalents of Best Picture. It follows a delinquent young Muslim man in prison who gets caught up in a mob war between two different factions among the prisoners. Netflix has debuted the trailer for American Son, the feature film adaptation of the acclaimed Broadway play of the same name. Netflix’s plan of completely dominating the entertainment world is now stretching to the Great White Way. The streaming service announced they will be debuting an adaptation of a Broadway play called American Son, and they’ve secured Kerry Washington (Scandal) to reprise her role from the stage in the film version. Sundance 2008

The line-up for the 2008 Sundance Film Festival was announced earlier this week. I just got my hands on a boat load of photos from the films in this year’s festival. We actually have too many photos to feature in just one posting, so we have divided this feature into a few parts.

Our second segment in the series takes a look at the films in the Dramatic Competition category. This year’s 16 films were selected from 1,068 submissions. Each film is a world premiere. The list of films includes: American Son, Anywhere USA, Ballast, Choke, Downloading Nancy, Frozen River, Good Dick, The Last Word, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, North Starr, Phoebe In Wonderland, Pretty Bird, Sleep Dealer, Sugar, Sunshine Cleaning, and The Wackness.
