If there’s one thing that pop culture has been missing, it’s a music video extravaganza highlighting the incredible raps of Major League Baseball players Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire. Thankfully, Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer and Jorma Taccone delivered last night with their surprise drop of The Lonely Island Presents: The Unathorized Bash Brothers Experience.
The 27-minute “visual poem” is basically The Lonely Island’s version of Beyonce’s Lemonade, but it’s about two of the most famous Oakland Athletics players in 1988. Literally no one was asking for this, but we’re certainly glad it’s here. Get a glimpse of this totally out-of-left-field (no pun intended) Lonely Island Netflix movie below. Read More »
Oh shit! Get your towels ready It’s about to go down!
It’s been 10 years since the comedy group known as The Lonely Island debuted their first album, Incredibad. Now, comedians Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shaffer are celebrating the anniversary in the most epic way possible: a two week tour in select cities throughout the East Coast and Midwest. As expected, the 90th Academy Awards went long last night, even with Jimmy Kimmel offering a sweet jetski to the Oscar winner who gave the shortest acceptance speech. But the ceremony was almost a little bit longer thanks to The Lonely Island, and it would have been worth the extra time.
The Lonely Island, the Saturday Night Live hip-hop trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer, and Jorma Taccone, was asked to write a song for this year’s Oscars ceremony. However, the song that they came up with about the films that weren’t nominated for Oscars ended up being “financially and logistically impossible” to shoot for the ceremony.
Thankfully, we can imagine what it might have been like thanks to the storyboard video and demo they recorded. So check out this abandoned The Lonely Island Oscars song featuring Thor, Wonder Woman, The Snowman, Pennywise the Dancing Clown, and more. Read More »
If you didn’t see Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping this summer, you’re part of the problem. Universal Pictures gave us this glorious, original comedy chock full of outstanding new songs from The Lonely Island, a barrage of incredible cameos, and some of the biggest laughs of the year. And how did audiences respond? Well, they didn’t, because the movie didn’t even hit $10 million in its theatrical run. But next month, you can make up for it when the movie hits home video.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 13, and it will hit VOD a couple weeks earlier on August 30. To help promote the arrival of the movie, a Popstar deleted scene has made its away online featuring an entire song that didn’t make the final cut of the movie (though you could have listened to it on the soundtrack). But beware that this scene is NSFW due to language, because the song is called “Fuck Off,” and they repeat that phrase more than a few times throughout. Read More »
It may only be June, but it’s going to take some damn good comedy to top the fits of laughter brought upon by Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. After The Lonely Island trio (Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer and Jorma Taccone) made a splash with their digital shorts on Saturday Night Live, it’s amazing it took them this long to put together a mockumentary following the rise and fall of a faux musician in the real world music industry. But for as long as it took, the hilarity delivered by Popstar makes it well worth the wait.

Following the music video for “The Finest Girl” that was released during the season finale of Saturday Night Live, a new video featuring Andy Samberg as faux rapper Conner4Real has the artist doing a little freestyle song about just how weird he is. The weird things he does include using a banana as a phone and taking the middle seat on a plane. Watch the new Popstar music video after the jump. Read More »
We’re just one week away from the release of Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The R-rated comedy from the comedic rap trio known as The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer and Jorma Taccone) features an endless array of cameos, some playing themselves, some playing ridiculous characters. However, there’s one cameo in the movie where instead of seeing a well-known face, you only see a certain part of their anatomy that is sparsely seen on film.
In Popstar, there’s a really funny sequence involving a fully exposed penis, and while you never see the face of the person the male member belongs to, the identity of this person is more than surprising. Find about the Popstar nude scene below. Read More »
After delivering some of the best recorded content Saturday Night Live has ever had, The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Shaffer and Jorma Taccone) have collaborated on a feature film that feels like it could have been inspired by one of their SNL Digital Shorts.
This summer brings the new comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, a mockumentary following rapper Connor4Real (Samberg) as he releases his new album and goes on tour.
