ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons Inspired An Entire Plot Line In Bones
By BEN PEARSON
In "Bones," the birth name of the character Angela Montenegro was one of the show's longest-running mysteries and was eventually revealed to be Pookie Noodlin Pearly-Gates Gibbons.
The delightfully unusual name makes some sense when considering that Billy F. Gibbons, the guitarist and lead singer of the rock band ZZ Top, played Angela’s father on the show.
The writers also embedded a hidden reference that only hardcore ZZ Top fans would know: "Pearly Gates" was the name of Gibbons’ guitar, a 1959 Les Paul that he used on every album.
As for the rest, "Pookie" is a typical pet name, while "Noodlin" almost certainly refers to what guitar players say when they're goofing off with a guitar: Just "noodlin' around."
