Yellowstone: Lee Dutton’s Fate Explained

One thing fans know about “Yellowstone” is that no one is safe. Cattle ranching isn’t easy, and the Duttons have lost many lives over the show’s run, including Lee.
Played by Dave Annable, Lee is the eldest son of John Dutton III. He’s utterly devoted to the Yellowstone ranch and his family, as his brother Kayce noted in the first episode.
Unfortunately, Lee Dutton is killed in this episode after a cattle dispute with the Broken Rock Indian Reservation results in him being shot by Robert Long, Kayce’s brother-in-law.
Kayce tries to save his brother, which ends with him shooting Long. In the end, Lee doesn’t make it, and Kayce has to bring his brother’s body back to his family’s ranch.
Although Lee dies in the first episode, he does make several appearances throughout the series, such as in flashbacks and Kayce’s vision quest in Season 4.
