Working With Disney Wasn't Something Ridley Scott Was Willing To Do
By SANDY SCHAEFER
It’s hard to imagine Ridley Scott pairing up with Disney as the director’s R-rated and occasional PG-13 movies are not exactly family-friendly like the ones from the Mouse House. However, in the wake of Disney buying Fox (a studio he usually worked with), Scott revealed in an interview that they had approached him to make a “wizard film,” an offer he declined.
In early 2018, Scott met with Disney executives about directing two films that would focus on the wizard Merlin. One was “The Merlin Saga” based on T.A. Barron’s book series, and the second one was "The Sword in the Stone," a live-action remake of Disney’s 1963 animated classic.
Four and a half years later, neither "The Merlin Saga" nor "The Sword in the Stone" have yet to make any further progress. In the meantime, Scott has gone off and finished two more films ("The Last Duel" and "House of Gucci"), with "Napoleon" well on the way to being done in the foreseeable future.
