Wind River Is Getting A Sequel, But Without Jeremy Renner

The follow-up to Taylor Sheridan’s Wyoming reservation-set thriller “Wind River,” starring Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen as a Fish and Wildlife agent and an FBI agent partnered to solve a potential homicide, is in production with Kari Skogland as its director. The sequel officially has a cast attached, indicating that Renner and Olsen won’t be returning.
The “Wind River: The Next Chapter” cast includes Scott Eastwood, Jason Clarke, and Chaske Spencer, along with the return of Martin Sensmeier as Chip Hanson, a drug addict from the first film that now works at the U.S. Fish and Game department. The new plot will involve “a series of ritualistic murders” and some degree of vigilante justice.
While “Wind River” spotlighted the underrepresented issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women, the film received criticism from some viewers claiming Sheridan sensationalized on-screen violence against Native women. As the film deals with a sensitive subject, “Wind River: The Next Chapter” will hopefully include more Indigenous women to help navigate the issues.
