Why Yellowstone’s Final Episodes Won’t Feature Kevin Costner

After the pandemic and strikes, production on "Yellowstone" faltered. Despite Paramount’s promise to return in the fall, the second half of the season still hasn't materialized.
Creator Taylor Sheridan suggested that Costner's focus on his passion project, the "Horizon" films, was partly to blame for the delays. Meanwhile, Costner announced his departure.
In his GQ profile, Costner shared his opinion of the issues, citing, "The scripts never came. And so then at one point they said to me that we don't have an ending or anything.”
Costner added, “I said, 'Well, if you want to kill me, if you want to do something like that,' I said, 'I have a week before I start. I'll do what you want to do.'"
