Why Timothee Chalamet Refused To Speak English To The Director Of Dune

In addition to managing a challenging massive physical production for the “Dune” films, director Denis Villeneuve had to tend to an enormous acting ensemble.
The director wanted to create cinema that deeply resonated with moviegoers and to accomplish that, he felt he needed to have connections with his many actors.
Villeneuve and Timothée Chalamet are both fluent in French. The New York Times journalist Amy Nicholson asked if they spoke the language to each other while working.
“Yes,” Villeneuve shared, “It was the way that we were able to find intimacy in the chaos. It was our protected landscape. A second secret language.”
