Why This Jim Carrey Movie Has A 0% On Rotten Tomatoes
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
Alexandros Avranas' 2018 film "Dark Crimes," starring Jim Carrey, was based on a true crime article published in the New Yorker in 2008.
Unfortunately for Carrey, the movie has a 0% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating. The actor plays a detective who becomes obsessed with underground sex clubs during his investigation.
One of the main issues with the film is that his obsession doesn't appear to be motivated by anything, as Carrey's character seems too detached to get any joy from it.
He and Marton Csokas’ character have a few conversations about how the world is meaningless and nothing can be solved, but their nihilism isn't presented as darkly appealing.
The movie presents a world of violence and crime populated by uncompelling characters. While exploring nihilism in films can be interesting, "Dark Crimes" fails to make it so.
