Why These Simpsons Chalkboard Gags Had To Be Changed In Reruns
By VALERIE ETTENHOFER
Political Gaffe
In season 2’s “Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish,” Bart Simpson’s original chalkboard message was “I will not Xerox my butt.”
However, when the episode reran a year and a half later, it was changed to “It's potato, not potatoe,” a dig at former U.S. Vice President Dan Quayle’s spelling bee mistake.
Fake Website
According to numerous “Simpsons” reference sites and fan message boards, Bart originally wrote, “butt.com is not my e-mail address” in a November 1998 episode.
Viewers tried to check the actual site, only to discover it was home to a lot of porn. Since then, the site name was changed to “butt.butt” in reruns.
One Night Only
In 2006, comedian Ricky Gervais penned the live-action episode, “Homer Simpson, This is Your Wife.” A child actor playing Bart wrote, “I will not laminate dog doo.”
According to Londonist, the live-action intro was only played once as it was created as a commercial for the British channel Sky One, but it could also be rights-related.
