Why The Riddler Was Chosen To Face Off Against Robert Pattinson’s Batman
By JENNA BUSCH
“Batman” movies are often made great by Batman’s dynamic with the villains, and Paul Dano’s Riddler in “The Batman” plays off Robert Pattinson’s Batman to great effect.
Batman often plays the detective in comics, and The Riddler’s notes and clues in “The Batman” allow him to reprise that role and discover the villain’s identity.
The dynamic is made more interesting by the parallels between the two characters, as both hide their identities and try to escape the pasts that define them.
As Pattinson notes, "The Riddler is more similar to him than Bruce would like to really admit. [...] [he] seems to know secrets about Batman and Bruce that even Bruce didn't know.”
The Riddler’s actions force Batman to react, as the villain is obsessed with the hero and won’t stop until his efforts are acknowledged. Without Batman, there is no Riddler.
