Why Stephen King Refuses To Work On Some Adaptations Of His Books
By CHRIS EVANGELISTA
Stephen King has mostly avoided handling the film and TV adaptations of his books, except for an episode of "The Stand'' and every episode of the Apple TV+ series "Lisey's Story.”
Filmmaker Mike Flanagan is quite adept at adapting King’s novels. However, King has had nothing to do with his movies, and there's a very funny reason for that.
At the ATX festival in Austin, Flanagan said that King avoids working on adaptations because they're either "radically wrong" or "radically right.”
According to Flanagan, King said, "If the show or the movie sucks, people will say 'the book is better,' and if it's great, they'll say 'of course it's great, the book is great.”
