Why Star Wars Cut All Of Lobot’s Lines (And A Scene In Which He Died)
By SANDY SCHAEFER
"Star Wars" has many side characters whose stories get more fleshed out in books and comic series, like Lobot, Lando Calrissian's cyborg friend from "The Empire Strikes Back."
However, John Hollis, who portrayed Lobot, revealed during an interview with Star Wars Insider that his character originally had a more significant role and was supposed to die.
Hollis said, "Originally, Lobot had quite a lot of lines to read. But they [...] decided it would be better if he didn't talk, because he had been lobotomized."
Director Irvin Kershner used visual storytelling rather than over-explain things through Lobot's dialogue. Hollis agreed with the idea for his character.
The actor also revealed there were initially supposed to be "a lot" of death scenes, including his own. However, they were abandoned for the Cloud City sequences.
