Why Star Trek: Voyager Season 1 Didn't Have A Finale
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
Unlike other "Star Trek" series, which often ended seasons with dramatic cliffhangers, "Voyager's" first season concluded with an unremarkable episode called "Learning Curve."
This was not intended to be the finale. Rather, it was the last episode aired because UPN, the network, decided to hold back four episodes originally planned for the first season.
Jeri Taylor, co-creator and writer for "Voyager," explained that UPN, not the production team, decided to delay these episodes to create an early start for the second season.
She expressed frustration with this decision, explaining that it led to an overreliance on reruns and deprived the season of a chance to finish "on a triumphant, uplifting note."
Lucy Salhany, UPN's head, defended the decision, stating that airing season 2 early was more important than finishing season 1 meaningfully to stand out against competing networks.
