Why Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Terry Farrell Found Dax Exhausting
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
The “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” character Jadzia Dax is a Trill, a species capable of conjoining with long-lived, surgically implanted, worm-like symbionts in their abdomens.
Dax, played by Terry Farrell, is a 22-year-old woman, but thanks to her symbiont, also possesses the memories and personalities of seven previous hosts.
Farrell enjoyed her role, but found it tiring. Eventually, she asked for a reduced role, which led to the decision to kill her off at the end of the show's sixth season.
Speaking to StarTrek.com, Farrell said, "I was just really tired. I was tired of waking up at four in the morning [...] I'm sure a lot of the other actors feel this way, too”.
Farrell explained, “You want to feel like you have your life again [...] I didn't know how to balance a schedule constantly changing all the time. It was really hard for me."
