Why Power Rangers: Once & Always Doesn’t Feature Amy Jo Johnson
By RAFAEL MOTAMAYOR
“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always” is filled with callbacks to the original series; however, some have wondered why the first Pink Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, isn’t in it.
Johnson’s absence as Kimberly Hart was noted when the first trailer for “Once & Always” revealed that the only original members in the special were David Yost and Walter Jones.
The actress addressed rumors that she turned down the role due to financial reasons, tweeting, “Please stop saying I didn’t do reunion because of money.”
She continued, “Maybe I just didn’t want to wear spandex in my 50s [...] or couldn’t go to NZ for a month. Or none of [your] beeswax.”
Johnson wasn’t the only original cast member to pass on the special, as Green Ranger Jason David Frank also turned down the part for unspecified reasons before his death.
As the story focuses on the Blue and Black Power Rangers, the others may have only been offered minor cameo roles at the beginning and end of the special.
