Why Miles Teller Hesitated To Accept His Role In Top Gun: Maverick
By CHRISTIAN GAINEY
In a Men’s Health interview, Miles Teller admitted that he almost declined the offer to play Rooster in “Top Gun: Maverick.” He explained, “I don't want this to come out the wrong way, but there was a part of me that didn't know if I wanted to be a part of something that could bring that much attention and success to me."
Teller’s hesitation is not surprising, seeing as how he turned to character-driven roles after the absolute failure of “Fantastic Four.” He explained how he likes to take on roles that allow him to experience things like “doing an accent or learning a skill” so that he would be “inspired” instead of just pretending to be a character.
Tom Cruise, however, strongly wanted Teller in the movie, so he couriered the script to him when he was vacationing in Kauai and even showed up in Florida to convince him. Teller couldn’t say no to one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars, and he also accepted so he could “give a voice” to veterans and those who serve in the armed forces.
