Why Kurt Russell Turned Down Stargate Over And Over Again

While Kurt Russell starred in Roland Emmerich's silly sci-fi action film "Stargate," the actor rejected the role multiple times for a specific reason.
Russell already had a solid career filled with generally well-received movies at the time. His choice of film roles played a significant part in his success.
When he was approached for "Stargate," Russell turned it down due to the film's quality. However, the film's writer, Dean Devlin, shared that the reason was due to a mistake.
Devlin said, "[W]hat we found out is that he had been given the wrong script ... He was given a very early draft of the script that should never have gotten out."
He continued, "So, when he actually saw the shooting script he went, 'Oh, this isn't so bad." Although "this isn't so bad" isn't praise, it was enough to get Russell on the project.
