Why Jurassic World Dominion's Epic Prologue Was Cut From The Movie
By JEREMY MATHAI
Six months before the release of “Jurassic World Dominion,” Universal released an extended clip of a standalone "prologue" sequence that showed dinosaurs living out their lives like a prehistoric nature documentary — but it didn’t appear in the actual movie. The prologue was supposed to run around five minutes and — on top of showing their lives — was meant to set up the T-Rex’s drive for the film's finale.
Even though some lucky audiences last year were able to see this stunning IMAX "prologue" sequence in theaters, this footage of dino-heavy action was cut before its final release. The main reason for the cut was time, as the movie was already quite long.
Director Colin Trevorrow says, “Universal supported my request to just give it to everyone for free and let people watch this prologue as a way to bring them into the world that we were creating.” The “prologue” is available free online, and there’s even a chance it will be added to a “director’s cut” down the line.
