Why Jason Statham Will Probably Never Show Up In The MCU
By SANDY SCHAEFER
Jason Statham, the rugged action star known for gritty, down-to-earth films like “The Transporter” and “The Expendables,” has been noticeably absent from the superhero craze.
When asked by Variety why he hasn't joined a superhero franchise, he admitted he doesn't have an appetite for donning capes and tights. "I like old-school '80s movies," he said.
With inspirations including actors Clint Eastwood and Steve McQueen, Statham said, "I just couldn't see any of those guys putting on a cape and a mask and going around on wires."
However, Statham recognizes that different genres appeal to different audiences, admitting, "Cinema is like music. Some people like country and western, others like heavy metal."
Despite the financial windfall that a Marvel or DC role could bring, the 55-year-old action icon is content with sticking to his wheelhouse of grounded action thrillers.
