Paternity is of utmost importance in “House of the Dragon,” so those who have unwanted pregnancies turn to moon tea. In season 2, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) asks for the tea.
Moon tea originates in real-world remedies and can be dangerous, but it might have saved Alicent’s life. She and Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) are supposed to be celibate.
A pregnancy puts them both in danger since she would not be able to pass off Cole’s child as belonging to her late husband, Viserys (Paddy Considine). Targaryen genes don’t lie.
If Cole was implicated, he could face banishment to the Wall or worse. It’s hypocritical of her even to use the brew, but we see her with a heating pad against her lower abdomen.
