Why Gilligan’s First Name Was Completely Wiped From Gilligan’s Island

On "Gilligan's Island," many fans wondered about the titular character's full name. It seems that "Gilligan" was once clarified as the character's last name in early series references.
In the early development, the beloved first mate had a full name. On his professional website, actor Bob Denver confirmed that the name of his character was Willy Gilligan.
Denver clarified all the characters' full names, which had been seen in the series. "Willy Gilligan" was never in a script nor spoken aloud in any episode.
Evidently, "Willy" was Schwartz's idea, but Denver liked the single name better. Willy was dropped, and Gilligan became a TV sitcom icon.
