Why Futurama Hurts More Female Characters Than The Simpsons
By MICHAEL BOYLE
There are many running gags in "Futurama," including the reminders that Amy is a klutz. She constantly slips on things, drops important items, and bangs her head.
For "Futurama" creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, this character trait was a deliberate reversal of Homer's clumsiness throughout "The Simpsons."
Homer is always banging his head against things or slipping and falling, whereas Marge and Lisa Simpson are generally kept away from any such slapstick humor.
Groening added, “And so I wanted to see on 'Futurama' if we could actually use slapstick with female characters and amuse people." Cohen chimed in, saying, "Turns out we could!"
