Why Furiosa’s Director Decided Not To De-Age Charlize Theron
By JEREMY SMITH
Almost a decade after the release of “Fury Road,” George Miller returns to the high-octane world of “Mad Max” with a prequel film, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.”
Charlize Theron won’t be returning to play Furiosa. Anya Taylor-Joy will play the titular role, and the story will follow Furiosa from her teens into her twenties.
Despite being able to digitally de-age Theron for the film and wanting her in the movie, Miller decided against it. He explained his reasoning in an interview with Empire.
Miller said, “I watched really masterful filmmakers like Ang Lee and Martin Scorsese, doing ‘Gemini Man’ and ‘The Irishman,’ and I saw that it hadn’t been licked.”
He continued, “All you’d be watching is, ‘Look how well the technology works.’ It would not have been persuasive.” “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” hits theaters on May 24, 2024.
