Why Fox's Bones Was Forced To Fit Brennan's Backstory Into One Episode
By RYAN SCOTT
The popular procedural crime show "Bones" was originally intended to gradually reveal the backstory of its central character, Dr. Temperance Brennan, throughout its first season.
"Brennan's back-story was supposed to unfold slowly over the course of season one. I had it all figured out," series creator Hart Hanson shared in "Bones: The Official Companion."
However, as Hanson explained, "the desire of both the network and the studio — and it's a good desire — is for us to remain episodic. So that people can come in at any time."
This approach meant that Brennan's entire backstory had to be condensed into a single episode, which became the season 1 finale titled "The Woman in Limbo."
