Why Famke Janssen Didn’t Play Jadzia Dax In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
"Star Trek" is notorious for inviting back actors who played small parts in past episodes for other roles. However, not everyone takes the opportunity to rejoin the franchise.
According to the book "Star Trek: The Next Generation 365," actress Famke Janssen turned down the part of Jadzia Dax in “Deep Space Nine” to focus on her film career.
Janssen originally appeared in “The Next Generation” episode “The Perfect Mate” as Kamala, a woman specially trained and genetically equipped to be irresistible to men.
While she was offered Jadzia Dax, Janssen didn’t want to be in a long-running TV series, saying, “I wanted some kind of guarantee that I could do feature films on the side.”
She added, “While I felt ['Deep Space Nine'] was a great opportunity, I felt I would get lazy as an actor if I didn't keep challenging myself with different parts.”
Terry Farrell eventually took the role of Jadzia Dax, while Janssen would go on to star in films like "GoldenEye," "Lord of Illusions," and three “X-Men” movies.
