Why Family Guy Will Never Do Another Star Wars Parody
By MICHAEL BOYLE
For three years in a row, “Family Guy” did a parody episode of "Star Wars." As much fun as they were, the show’s writers clearly had a ton of respect for the movies.
It doesn't seem like they love the prequels quite as much. "I think the 'Cleveland Show' is doing those," Peter says dismissively at the end of the "Return of the Jedi" special.
After the third parody, Disney purchased Lucasfilm. "The new regime at 'Star Wars' slash Disney is a little more difficult to deal with," producer Alec Sulkin said at Comic-Con.
"Before we were just dealing with Lucasfilm and Seth [MacFarlane] had a good relationship with them," Sulkin added. Disney also bought “Family Guy” in 2019.
Aside from the new powers that be, the writers were exhausted. "[...] By the time we were done with the third one, I think we were about ready to kill ourselves," Sulkin said.
Even the third special was showing the writers nodding off and had an opening crawl that read, "We don't care. We were thinking of not even doing this one. Fox made us do it."
