Why Emma Caulfield Wanted Joss Whedon To Kill Off Her Buffy Character
By SHAE SENNETT
Emma Caulfield, who played Anya in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” requested her character's death in the series finale due to feeling unappreciated and disrespected by others on set.
Joss Whedon, the show's creator, honored the request, citing Caulfield's readiness to move on. Caulfield's departure aligns with allegations of workplace misconduct against Whedon.
Whedon acknowledged Caulfield's readiness to leave the character behind, telling TV Guide Online, “She had a good time making the show, I think. But she was ready to move on.”
Despite the conflicts, Caulfield, alongside other original cast members, reprised her role in the Audible spin-off “Slayers.” This move symbolizes a new beginning without Whedon.
