Why Cartoon Network Canceled Young Justice After Two Short Seasons
By DEVIN MEENAN
While “Young Justice” seems to be in a bad situation as it waits for Warner Bros. to green-light a new season, the show wasn’t outright canceled like it was on Cartoon Network.
Creator Greg Weisman explained the reason why the network canceled it in the first place — the “Young Justice” toys didn’t sell enough products.
Toy company Mattel sponsored the series while it was on Cartoon Network, but when sales dropped, they backed out, and the show lost its funding.
Fans have speculated that the show was too mature for younger audiences that typically buy toys. Another theory was that the show had too high a female viewership.
While “Young Justice” did have an evenly-gendered fanbase, Weisman confirmed that this had “zero” impact on the show’s cancellation.
