Why Cab Driver Jeff Was Recast In Better Call Saul's Final Episodes
By ERIN BRADY
One of the most intense and terrifying scenes of “Better Call Saul” was the Season 5 episode where Jeff (Don Harvey) confronts a man posing as Gene, and gets him to confess that he was the infamous Saul Goodman. Although the cab-driving character will reappear in the final episodes, he will now be played by Pat Healy, not Harvey.
While the explanation behind the recasting has not been officially confirmed by any of the show's cast or crew, the fansite All About Saul claims to have received the information from a "trusted inside source.” According to this site, Harvey didn’t return to play Jeff because he was working on another project.
When it was time for Harvey’s character to return he already had a contractual obligation with the HBO miniseries “We Own This City.” Coupled with the fact that both shows shoot on-location ("Better Call Saul" in Albuquerque and "We Own This City" in Baltimore), potentially creating major conflicts in an industry still navigating around COVID-19, the recasting makes perfect sense.
