Why Bringing Night Court Back Was Bittersweet For John Larroquette
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
The original sitcom "Night Court" ran for 193 episodes over nine seasons. It was part of a magical Thursday-night lineup of sitcoms that dominated pop culture throughout the 1980s.
A revival of the hit "Night Court" was floated to NBC sometime in 2019 or 2020, and they began developing the new series, which debuted on their network in 2023.
The "Night Court" reboot saw the return of John Larroquette as Dan Fielding, a once-lascivious-now-humbled D.A. who worked the night shifts at the Manhattan Criminal Court.
However, Larroquette was one of the only originals still alive and working. Harry Anderson, who played Judge Stone, died in 2018, and when the revival was delayed, more were lost.
Markie Post and Charlie Robinson passed in 2021, and Richard Moll, who played Bull, died in October 2023. Marsha Warfield also occasionally returns to play Roz, the bailiff.
Larroquette is grateful he can reminisce with line producer Pixie Wespiser and the script-and-continuity worker Susie Gunter, who also worked on the original.
