Why Brad Pitt Could Barely Move After Shooting 12 Monkeys
By WITNEY SEIBOLD
Brad Pitt's intense dedication to his role as Jeffrey Goines in 12 Monkeys left him physically drained to the point where he could barely move after his first day of shooting.
Pitt threw himself into the character, rehearsing lines at odd hours in the eerie, abandoned Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, which served as the film's mental asylum.
In a retrospective, production designer Brad Jeffrey Beecroft recalled working late one night and seeing Pitt "running his lines in this abandoned asylum at 10 o'clock at night."
Director Terry Gilliam revealed that "Brad had worked so hard that on his first day of shooting he pulled out all the stops and by the end of the day he could barely move."
