Why Bones Denied John Francis Daley’s Request To Return To The Show
By SANDY SCHAEFER
John Francis Daley has had a fast-growing filmmaking career with films like “Horrible Bosses” and “Game Night.” It may be hard to remember he was a part of the “Bones” cast.
Daley played Lance Sweets, the psychologist helping Seeley Booth and Dr. Brennan deal with their feelings for one another. He appeared in 138 of the show’s 246 episodes.
After Daley and his writing partner Jonathan Goldstein wrote the show’s Season 6 episode, “The Truth in the Myth,” the two jumped to directing 2015’s “Vacation.”
Daley needed four months off to direct the movie. Although it’s common for shows to have characters go missing for periods, it often feels awkward when they finally return.
Rather than coming up with a reason for Sweets’ absence while Daley was directing “Vacation” for four months, the “Bones” creatives elected to give the character a sendoff.
Despite wanting to return, Daley shared with TV Line that executive producer Stephen Nathan felt “it would be more satisfying for the fans to conclude Sweets in a dramatic way.”
