Why Baby Yoda Was Removed From The Simpsons’ First Star Wars Short
By ETHAN ANDERTON
Back in 2021, "The Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean told CNN why Baby Yoda’s cameo ended up being axed from the "Star Wars" short titled "The Force Awakens from Its Nap."
The three minute animated short finds Maggie taken to Jabba's Hut Jedi Preschool, where characters like Ahsoka Tano and Lando Calrissian can be found looking after children.
Baby Yoda was almost at the preschool with Maggie, but since the story was "between Maggie and BB-8, we just eliminated everything that wasn't pertinent to that story," Jean said.
As a result, "a scene where we had the parents picking up the kids, and the Mandalorian was one of them," was removed. In the final version, parents aren’t even seen doing this.
Baby Yoda’s removal is also because Disney wanted to avoid overexposing the character. Instead, Jean and "The Simpsons" were able to "do a little tribute to him."
