Who is David Tennant Playing in Ahsoka? Huyang Explained
By BRYAN YOUNG
Star Wars fans have been excited about the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn for the live-action “Ahsoka” series, with the new trailer offering a brief glimpse of the villain.
However, Thrawn isn’t the only exciting character in the trailer, as viewers can see an old-looking droid named Huyang, voiced by none other than “Doctor Who’s” David Tennant.
First appearing in “The Clone Wars” TV series, Huyang instructs the younglings in lightsaber crafting after receiving their kyber crystals from the icy planet, Ilum.
Huyang was a vital instructor for the Jedi younglings in crafting their first weapons, and it now seems that he will work with Ahsoka after the events of Episode VI.
There are several subtle nods to Tennant’s 10th Doctor from the BBC series “Doctor Who” found in “Star Wars” lore, such as Huyang age and a reference to a blue box.
Tennant is an Emmy award-winning voice actor who brings gravitas to his performances. Fans can see him in “Star Wars: Ahsoka” when the series debuts on Disney+ in August 2023.
