Which Of The Three Mean Girls Movies Is The Best?
By BJ COLANGELO
Fans may agree on what to wear on Wednesdays, but there is an ongoing — and escalating — debate about which of the three “Mean Girls” movies claims the top spot.
Taking the lowest position of the three is "Mean Girls 2" (2011), a sequel that emerged seven years after the initial film. It fell short of capturing the essence of its predecessor.
Despite showcasing the same clique warfare, the sequel failed. It tried to convey a “be yourself” motto but was burdened by an excess of #NotLikeMostGirls faux-feminism.
In second place is "Mean Girls" (2024). Although not as popular as the original, this musical version transitions from Broadway to the big screen and effectively uses fan service.
With updated humor and bullying dynamics crafted for a Gen-Z audience, the musical is well-directed and has a great cast.
The undisputed champion remains the original “Mean Girls” (2004). A cinematic masterpiece, the film has left an indelible mark on pop culture over the past two decades.
Apart from its financial success, the devoted following goes to the extent of celebrating October 3rd as “Mean Girls Day,” complete with unforgettable quotes and merchandising.
