What We Do In The Shadows Kicked Off A Battle Between Matt Berry And Taika Waititi
By MATTHEW BILODEAU
FX’s comedy vampire mockumentary, "What We Do in the Shadows,” has one of the funniest casts on television, and it seems like the hilarity doesn’t stop when the cameras do. In an interview with The New York Times, co-executive producer Taika Waititi told the story of how he engaged in a nap war with actor Matt Berry during their time in Toronto for some night shoots.
Waititi stated, “We'd nap all the time. I'd see a couch and be like, 'There's my couch.' Matt Berry is also a huge napper. On the sets, we'd scope out the beds. And I'd be, 'Oh, that's mine.' And then I'd come in and Matt would be in it." There is also a funny sign on the set that reads, “No sleeping” and in smaller letters, “unless you’re Taika.”
In the same interview, series creator Jemaine Clement also added his take on the sleeping situation on a set that is built for vampires. He explained, "Usually when you have a house set, there's bedrooms with beds. But there's no beds on this, because it's coffins. There's nowhere to sleep. So everyone's got to really search: 'Ah, now that human character has a bed.'”
