What the Ant-Man Movies Are Truly About, According to Director Peyton Reed
By CAMERON ROY HALL
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) might have the Ant-Man suit that allows him to shrink and grow his body to fantastical sizes, but the character is ultimately a regular guy who became a superhero by chance. Fortunately, director Peyton Reed understands this and has made humanity the center of Lang’s story by focusing on the connection between the hero and his daughter, Cassie.
Reed shared, “The ‘Ant-Man’ movies have really always been about family. It is a generational story about a family of heroes and Scott Lang, who is not a billionaire super scientist, or anything getting sucked into this world, and Hope van Dyne, who is the legacy daughter of two superheroes.” The franchise shines its light on Cassie, who fills a significant role as Lang’s motivation.
Cassie is now a young adult in “Quantumania” with her own life, which will affect the new relationship dynamic between her and her father. Reed indicated that the film would bring to light all the secrets the families have been keeping from one another. Fans can see the family drama unfold when “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
