What Star Wars: The Acolyte Doesn't Tell You About Vernestra Rwoh
By BRYAN YOUNG
The Disney+ show "Star Wars: The Acolyte" introduces Vernestra Rwoh, or Vern, a character from the High Republic era, but it leaves out significant details about her history.
First introduced in Charles Soule's book "Light of the Jedi," Vernestra is a teenage Jedi prodigy, becoming the youngest Padawan to reach the rank of Jedi Knight at the age of 17.
In the books, she is a green-skinned Mirialan, known for her lightsaber that can transform into a whip. She takes on a Padawan, Imri Cantos, who is a few years younger than her.
This early version of Vernestra is depicted as optimistic and capable. She navigates the conflict with the Nihil and dark side and witnesses the crash of Starlight Beacon.
By the time "The Acolyte" begins, Vernestra is over a hundred years old. She is portrayed as more serious and stoic, with a hint of cynicism that suggests a troubled past.
However, the series doesn't delve deeply into this backstory, leaving fans to speculate what has happened to her character over the years and how it changed her.
