What Early Critics Had To Say About Dune: Part Two

Denis Villeneuve’s "Dune: Part Two" comes out in theaters on March 1, 2024. The early reactions among critics who saw it weeks ago have set expectations sky-high.
/Film's Chris Evangelista published one of the many positive reviews. However, he cautioned viewers to prepare themselves for "one of the bleakest blockbusters ever made."
Evangelista went on to call it "A grand, overwhelming sensory experience [...] The costumes pop, the scenery stuns, and Hans Zimmer's score booms and drones."
Former /Film editor and current Inverse critic Hoai-Tran Bui said, "It's a towering feat of sci-fi cinema [...] in contention for the pantheon of greatest sequels ever."
Germain Lussier of io9 agreed, calling the film: "A continuation, culmination, and ultimately a fantastic elevation of everything you already loved about [...] 'Dune: Part One.'"
Matt Singer of Screen Crush highlights the more personal flavor of storytelling in "Part Two," lauding the film for focusing on character even amid the VFX-fueled spectacle.
However, IndieWire's David Ehrlich disagreed. He praised the blockbuster's world-building but noted that Villeneuve's ambition often swallows up the characters.
