Tyler Hoechlin Never Expected to Return
For Superman
& Lois
By FATEMEH MIRJALILI
When Tyler Hoechlin auditioned for and eventually didn’t get the role in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” he probably had no idea that he would get to play Superman multiple times during his career. And it probably worked out for the best as Hoechlin realized that he was at odds with Snyder’s dark and gritty Superman, and would become known for embodying the superhero’s optimism.
Hoechlin had a four-episode stint as Superman in the CW’s “Supergirl” during its second season. He described the role as perfect for where he was in his career, saying, “I had just left [Teen Wolf] and was enjoying the opportunity to try different things [and filming] was going to be a couple of weeks up in Vancouver. I could check the list and say I got to play a superhero — and Superman at that."
The actor would reprise his role several more times on The CW’s "Elseworlds,” "Arrow," "The Flash," and "Crisis on Infinite Earths." And just as it seemed like the network was set on relegating Hoechlin to Superman cameos, it greenlit "Superman & Lois," which will portray Clark Kent’s life with longtime love, Lois Lane, as they return to Smallville and juggle their original jobs and being parents to two teenage boys.
