Two Of Community's Most Popular Gags Won’t Be Returning In The Movie

“Community” fans were undoubtedly thrilled with the news that the long-requested movie was finally going to happen. However, as the series ended with most of the characters departing on their own journeys, the film raises a new question: What will it be about? While fans speculate what might reunite the characters, creator Dan Harmon has shared what won’t be in the movie.
The paintball episodes are some of the most beloved of the series, but Harmon explained the gag won’t return for the film: “It’s one of the first things to rule out because it’s the first thing off the top of your head, and that’s an issue with the ‘Community’ movie concept.” Aside from being a predictable idea, the creator said they never entirely recaptured “the joy” of the original episode.
Harmon also said that the series’ genre homages wouldn’t be in the film, possibly due to how limiting they could be to the movie’s structure. Although Harmon was vague, he shared, “[The characters] haven’t been together in a long time, but it’s not because they swore each other off ... there’s a reason to get together and there’s a reason they have to stay together.”
