Tom Hanks Covered For A Clumsy Chris Farley On The Set Of SNL
By MATT RAINIS
Chris Farley's tenure on "Saturday Night Live" was electric, but even a talent as large as his didn't immediately feel comfortable on the show. The comedian once recalled how a potentially embarrassing situation on the show was mitigated by Hollywood's dad himself, Tom Hanks.
Farley remembered a mishap during a skit, saying, “I came in, slammed the door, and all the scenery came off of the wall of the set, and thank god Tom Hanks covered for it." Hanks covered for his massive blunder, despite a bit of uncharacteristically mean name-calling.
"I think he said something like, 'My God, tubby, you don't know your own strength!' or something like that you know?" said Farley. Thanks in part to the cover-up by Hanks, Farley was able to become the massive star he was meant to be before his untimely and tragic death in 1997.
