Tom Cruise Gave Glen Powell His Blessing To Do Both Top Gun: Maverick And Devotion

Both "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Devotion” feature actor Glen Powell and both are naval aviation films. That Powell also has a pilot’s license in real life makes this only funnier, but it also left him with the pressure to choose between one or the other — a dilemma that Tom Cruise eventually helped him resolve.
Describing Cruise’s response to his dilemma, Powell discussed how the former flat out told him that there was “room for two” and that he didn’t have to choose between “Top Gun” and “Devotion.” He described appreciating how Cruise gave him the “liberty” to make both movies even though they were quite different from each other.
Powell's choice to do both projects was a relief for Adam Makos, who helped adapt "Devotion" from his book of the same name. He described thinking that Powell was going to “leave [them] behind” because “who wouldn't want to act alongside Tom Cruise?" Luckily for him, Cruise made everyone’s lives easy.
