Titans Season 4 Got Rid Of Its Best Character Way Too Soon
By MARCOS MELENDEZ
Spoiler Warning!
This story contains spoilers for Season 4 of "Titans."
Season 4 of “Titans'' has moved the titular superhero team to Metropolis, bringing many new challenges — including the arrival of Superman villain Lex Luthor, played by Titus Welliver. However, Lex’s time on the show is brief as the brilliant, megalomaniac dies in the premiere episode, quickly disposing of the best character introduced this season.
When Superboy visits Lex, one of his biological fathers, for some clarity and closure, it’s revealed that Lex has a terminal illness and wants to have a relationship with his son in his final days. While his time was brief, Welliver’s Lex made a strong impression on the viewers before his death, which served as the inciting incident for the rest of the narrative.
Lex’s death plays into the shock factor, but is also a disservice to what could have been if the show had developed the relationship between him and Superboy for several more episodes. It’s too early to tell if this season will continue to make baffling choices, but viewers can keep up to date on “Titans” with new episodes airing Thursday on HBO Max.
