This Twilight Zone Season 5 Episode Is Based On A Real Incident

When creative inspiration failed, "The Twilight Zone" Rod Serling turned to the real world for inspiration, as he did for the season five episode "Mr. Garrity and the Graves."
During a visit to Utah’s Alta Lodge, Serling stumbled upon a news report about a mysterious man who had arrived in the town in 1873 and caused quite the commotion.
A man in robes walked into town holding a staff and claiming that he could help folks reunite with dead loved ones. While there is no proof of the story, it’s
Serling used this true story as the basis for "Mr. Garrity and the Graves," which depicts Jared Garrity arriving in Happiness, Arizona and claiming he can resurrect the dead.
Unlike the swindler in Alta, though, Garrity truly could resurrect the dead. The episode was a middling affair that underlined the mysterious pull of the Twilight Zone.
