These Were 2024’s Biggest Box Office Bombs So Far
By RYAN SCOTT

Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite's "kill or be killed" thriller set aboard the International Space Station couldn't overcome mixed reviews to be competitive over other films.
No amount of good word-of-mouth can save a movie that makes $3 million on opening weekend. It was dead on arrival, staying in theaters for a few weeks and totaling $6.5 million.
Ghostbusters
Sony spent more money on this sequel to 2021's "Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” making “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” a flop with no excuses to be made.
The studio will be relying on other revenue streams such as merchandise and additional post-theatrical cash flow to help mitigate the losses.
Arthur The King
Mark Wahlberg’s attempt at a smaller-budget, feel-good movie got buried amongst impressive blockbuster theatrical runs like "Dune: Part Two" and "Kung Fu Panda 4."
With a domestic opening at a modest $7.6 million, Lionsgate will be okay, but its only real hope at this point is that it overperforms on video on demand.
Drive-Away Dolls
As half of one of the most praised directing duos in history, Ethan Coen’s solo feature debut surprisingly flopped pretty damn hard at the box office.
Focus Features had planned to release “Drive-Away Dolls” last fall but didn’t, in no small part due to the Screen Actors Guild strike. The delay didn’t help commercial prospects.
Madame Web
Starring Dakota Johnson and directed by S.J. Clarkson, "Madame Web" was the first live-action superhero movie to hit theaters in 2024. It did not go well.
Marvel's good name only goes so far against terrible reviews from critics and audiences. Nothing went right and Sony needs to go back to the drawing board for future adaptations.
