By ERIC VESPE
Although the truth behind Henry Cavill’s departure from “The Witcher” is still murky, viewers can see the actor portray Geralt of Rivia for one final season before handing the sword over to Liam Hemsworth. The Netflix series may be switching actors, but creator and showrunner Lauren Hissrich has assured fans Cavill’s time as the White Wolf will end with a bang.
Cavill’s exit from the series wasn’t planned, but Hissrich commented that the timing oddly works as Season 3 is primarily an adaptation of “Time of Contempt,” a more action-heavy entry in Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel series. According to the showrunner, Cavill gets “a heroic sendoff” before the character returns for Season 4 with Hemsworth as the lead.
Hissrich added that events building over the first three seasons will leave Geralt a different man by the start of Season 4, and with Cavill stepping away, that “different man” angle is now literal instead of figurative. For his part, Hemsworth shared his passion for the character, saying, “I’m truly excited to be stepping into the ‘Witcher’ world.
