The Way Star Wars Handled Snoke Absolutely ‘Gutted’ Andy Serkis
By ERIC VESPE
In “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Andy Serkis, who portrayed Supreme Leader Snoke, expressed feeling utterly disheartened by the surprising decision to kill off Snoke’s character.
Serkis spoke of Snoke’s demise with GQ “‘This is the most incredible character.’ Then I turned the page: ‘And then Snoke gets sliced in half’ [...] And I was gutted.”
Director Rian Johnson's strategic plot move prevented the sequel trilogy from falling into a predictable pattern, ensuring that the storyline did not mimic the original trilogy.
Without Snoke, Episode 9 had the freedom to explore new narrative possibilities. Johnson's bold move provided a blank canvas for a trilogy that, at the time, was poorly received.
